The council meets every month on a regular basis as with occasional special projects meetings. Twice a year we meet in person for a weekend conference style exchange of ideas, powerful discussions and forward planning.
Although it does not take a dramatic amount of your time, council members are required to have some availability for meetings, special projects and communicating with councilor members.
The council engages itself to promote Youth Voices through a variety of special projects like preparing reports on government initiatives, writing opinions, and awareness campaigns.
The council, organized like a tree, has branches rather than committees. There are 7 branches (Economy, Education, Mental Health, Elections & Data, Social Media & Communication, Diversity and Fierté Francophone) all working in concert to power the council.
The New Brunswick Youth Advisory Council does not have any real age restrictions; however, it is a youth council, led by youth voices. Formed of young professional with a passion for helping others, post secondary students bringing awareness to mental health related causes and high school students with a passion for politics, the council is an inclusive and safe space for many different humans and all types of personalities.
The council has terms and agreements, better thought of as guiding principles, in order to have some collective understanding of what it means to be engaged with the council. It helps us prepare our leadership elections, structures our environment without limiting our creativity. It promotes treating each other in a manner that fosters both a brave and safe space, where all ideas and opinions can be shared and heard compassionately and respectfully.
